Synopsis

Researchers now need to have a good understanding of social media in order to keep abreast of the latest developments in their fields of research and to promote their research outcomes. The recent International Olympic Committee (IOC) World Conference on Prevention of Injury & Illness in Sport included a session on social media. This SMART Talk discussed several commonly used social media tools – Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Blogs from a sport-research perspective. Greg provided an insight into his use of social media in keeping up-to-date and disseminating research. Greg also discussed ways of keeping control of the flow of information through social media. The first part of the SMART Talk involved a 30 minute presentation. The second part involved questions and answers.

Biography

Greg Blood is currently an Australian Institute of Sport Emeritus Researcher. He was a Senior Librarian at the National Sport Information Centre 1983-2011 and currently assists the Clearinghouse for Sport in high-performance sport research. His interests are related sport information management and dissemination, and the history of sport.
